Management is forecasting Rocket Auto will more than double its car sales in 2021 as the company expands its presence into the online automotive market. I expect the introduction of will help the company sustain its winning streak. During the second quarter, Rocket Auto facilitated the sale of 15,600 auto units, representing a year-over-year increase of 143%. Rocket Auto was growing at a fast clip prior to the website’s launch. The company just introduced a potentially game-changing car-buying website,. One of the most promising growth avenues for the company is its Rocket Auto business line. Farner also noted that Rocket Companies’ newer businesses, Rocket Homes, Rocket Auto and the company’s solar program, “leverage our existing platform and represent significant growth opportunities.” Rocket Companies CEO and Vice Chairman Jay Farner emphasized that the strong quarterly results were driven by profits from multiple business segments, including the company’s mortgage, real estate, auto and personal finance brands. With solid fundamentals and a low valuation multiple, I see RKT stock as a rare bargain. Looking ahead to the third quarter, management said it expects closed loan volume of $82 billion to $87 billion. That number was more than three times higher than the start of the year. Total liquidity of $7.8 billion, including $2 billion in cash on handĪdditionally, the company said the number of real estate agents who had signed up for its Rocket Pro Insight by the end of Q2 was around 50,000.Net revenues of $2.7 billion, net income of $1 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $1.3 billion.$83.8 billion in closed loan origination volume – a record for the company and up nearly 16% year over year.Below are some of the highlights from the report, which was released in August: The company is in an excellent fiscal position and is highly profitable, as evidenced by its second-quarter results and outlook. The De Walt tools variety has up to approximately 40 different portable tools which are 18v. The other thing is that if you are one of those who likes a wide range of portable or battery-powered tools, then this could really be a big addition for you. Their range of tools which require the 18v to 20v capacity work just splendidly with this affordable battery adapter, and the limitations are relegated strictly to the XRP battery charger models. The DCA1820 (model number) has the latest lithium ion battery technology the company has come up with and offers a wide range of compatibility for the DeWalt lineup. For those of us who have some aging tools or just want more power for our 18-volt cordless drills, it is a very useful if not necessary accessory for our DW cordless power tools. I think that basically any tool junkie, long-time holder and user of DW cordless tools or just plain, old fanboy should be excited over the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter. Essentially, it means that if you can’t directly swap-out for a larger battery and despite the scarcity of the original power pack, there is still some truly great news for you: A DeWalt battery adapter is available! However, some companies–such as DeWalt, the focus of this article–have responded in a way that allows for us to continue using some of those cordless tools we have grown attached to as if they are an extension of ourselves. Man….that kind of stuff is a HUGE bummer! This actually reminds me of the new game systems which roll out a new platform and don’t allow for the previous systems’ games to be played anymore. I’m sure you know that often times we aren’t quite ready to let go of our aging tools just yet, but future generations of tools from the same manufacturer don’t always plan easy solutions for us, and as their tech changes, our old favorites can get left in the dust. I did my best to locate some more, both online and locally, but after acquiring a couple of 24V replacements which basically had the same longevity problem, I was left holding my drill and wondering if I would ever be this happy again, because I truly believed that I wouldn’t. Suddenly, after a brief time period where I had gone back to school and wasn’t using my drill regularly anymore, the batteries just sort of gave up the ghost and couldn’t be recovered. Long-gone were the days of using my drill at the shop for a week at a time without needing a charge. Actually, I never thought I’d have to–until the dreaded day came when its Ni-Cd batteries played out. Love of our tools’ performance is a beautiful thing, and as I became more and more accustomed to my B&D drill, I was less and less interested in giving it up. All in all, I was quite proud of this cordless beast and it was one of the coolest purchases I ever made for myself. However, there were indeed times when my drill was the savior and shocked the other guys, and not only that, but I am also a big guy so I didn’t mind the heavier-than-normal weight of it. They commented often about the size and weight of the thing, as well as how ridiculously overpowered it was for the tasks we generally needed drills for. It not only slaughtered the performance of my colleagues’ older DeWalts, it even one-upped the new 18V Makita that was brought in. If you read some of my posts here on WG, then you’ll sometimes see my nostalgia leak through. I used to use a strong–quite strong, actually–Black & Decker 24v hammer drill for most of my day-to-day work in the cabinet shop and, truth be told, it was stronger and longer-lasting than anything I needed or ever had before. Is Upgrading Your DeWalt Power Tool As Easy As Picking Up a Battery Adapter? Mac system optimization and cleaning tools.Intego is optimized for macOS, enhancing Apple’s native security with features like: Intego isn’t free, but then the free products on my list like TinyWall don’t protect Mac computers. Not only does it provide excellent network monitoring tools, but it’s also highly secure with flawless malware detection rates, and it massively improves on Apple’s built-in security features. Intego is a full-featured antivirus for Mac, and it comes with a great smart firewall. Read the full Norton 360 review here □2. Each of its plans is backed by a risk-free 60-day money-back guarantee. Norton also has great dark web monitoring, an unlimited-data VPN, web protection, and more. While the Smart Firewall will give you tools to monitor your network and block network intrusions, the malware scanner detects and removes all kinds of malware from your devices. Norton 360 offers the best antivirus on the market with a fantastic Smart Firewall. All of Norton’s plans are backed by a generous 60-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it out risk-free. It covers 5 devices and comes with a fast unlimited-data VPN, great parental controls, and dark web monitoring, all for UAH1,850 / year. However, I think Norton 360 Deluxe offers the best value for most users. Plans start at UAH740 / year with Norton Antivirus Plus, which covers 1 device and gives you Norton’s antivirus and Smart Firewall. Norton’s dark web monitoring is the best I’ve tested, and it’s an excellent way to strengthen your online security. It constantly scans the web for a wide range of your personal details, like credit card info, addresses, insurance documentation, phone numbers, and more - and alerts you to any data breaches. It’s available in 20+ countries including the US, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and many European countries. Norton’s dark web monitoring helps protect your identity online. On top of a great firewall, Norton also includes: During my tests, Norton successfully blocked 100% of network intrusions and other threats (even more than TinyWall did), and I found its network monitoring tools to be simple to use. It’s simple to use and you can easily add or tweak firewall rules, block programs, and customize the firewall to your liking. Norton’s Smart Firewall protects against unauthorized connection attempts, port access, and other network intrusions. While Norton isn’t free, it has a 60-day money-back guarantee so you can try it out risk-free for 2 months. It combines a top-of-the-line Smart Firewall that blocks more threats than Microsoft Defender’s firewall with an excellent antivirus that detects and removes all threats from your system. Comodo - Lightweight firewall that’s good for beginners. GlassWire - Free firewall that works on Android. TinyWall - Best overall free firewall program. Norton 360 - Best overall antivirus with a premium firewall. Quick summary of the best free firewall programs in 2023: Even my top free pick, TinyWall, can’t offer as much protection as a full-featured internet security suite like Norton can. Many premium antiviruses, like Norton 360, include great firewalls on top of security features like real-time protection, VPNs, parental controls, and more. A firewall will only prevent network threats - it won’t offer protection against other malware types. That said, a firewall isn’t a replacement for a good antivirus package. I cut through all the sub-par products and found a few firewalls that provide excellent network monitoring tools, extra security features, and a wide range of customization options. I tested hundreds of firewalls to find the top 5 best free programs in 2023. Unfortunately, these fake tools will attempt to download malware or adware onto your device when you install them. A lot of older firewalls are incompatible with modern devices and have stopped receiving updates, and there are also a lot of fake and malicious cybersecurity tools on the web claiming to contain free firewalls. My first confusion with Flutter was where to find this source file in the project window on the left, or even where to find the lib folder. To begin with, this folder just holds the file main.dart, which is where your app begins execution. The most important folder name to be aware of is lib - this is where your source files live, basically where you edit your application. Be sure to give your project a name with all lower case, separating words with underscores, Flutter project names do not like camel case! Flutter generates folders for each target which are then used to build your app. You can choose which platforms you would like to target - iOS, Android, or you can even target web - or the desktop, whether that be MacOS, Windows or Linux. Creating a new Flutter project is as straightforward as creating a native Android project. Once you install the Flutter plugin, working with Flutter in Android Studio is surprisingly well integrated into the IDE. As you have Android Studio installed anyway to run apps on Android, unless you have a strong preference otherwise, it probably makes most sense to go ahead and work in Android Studio. It just takes installing a Flutter plugin in your IDE to able to run your app from within the IDE, and also have access to code completion, syntax highlighting, debugging, etc. The next surprise was that Flutter doesn’t have its own IDE - it allows you to use your own preferred IDE (although Xcode isn’t in the list) - Android Studio, IntelliJ, VS Code, or Emacs. The Flutter tool is quite useful in the installation process - just run flutter doctor and see if you have missed any steps or dependencies.įrom the point of view of someone who avoids Terminal if possible - give me a graphical UI any day - all of this messing about in the Terminal was a little unexpected, but not too difficult. You’ll need to add Flutter to your PATH to be able to run Flutter commands in Terminal. You’ll also need to do some tinkering in Terminal to prepare your machine, such as agreeing to iOS and Android licenses. To run apps on iOS you’ll also need to ensure that the latest versions of Xcode and CocoaPods are all set up and ready to go too. To run apps on Android you’ll need to install Android Studio, and add “virtual devices” to be able to run the app on the Android emulator. There is of course an installer which contains the Flutter SDK, but there is also a series of steps that have to be followed to be ready to go. The first surprise with Flutter was the installation process, which to be honest, was a little laborious. As is usually the case with new software, let’s start with installation. In this article I’m going to take a look at Flutter from the perspective of a native iOS developer.įor those interested in following along and checking Flutter out for yourself, you’ll find good guides at v. With approximately one third of mobile app developers now using cross-platform tools ( link), Flutter definitely looks worth checking out! Flutter - let’s check it out In StackOverflow’s 2021 developer survey, Flutter was loved by 68% of developers, React Native 58%, and Cordova just 31%. Meanwhile React Native dropped a few points to 38%. Flutter was used by 42% of developers in 2021. However, since then Flutter has experienced quite a rise in popularity. Until recently, React Native easily lead the field of cross-platform tools, with 42% of developers choosing it in 2019, while other tools only reached 30% or fewer ( link). Xamarin, developed by Microsoft in 2014, React Native, developed by Facebook (now Meta) in 2015, and Flutter, developed by Google in 2017, allowed cross-platform apps to look and behave like native apps. This all changed when native cross-platform development became possible. One drawback of these tools was that native components were not easily available - apps built in these tools often had their own custom look, using HTML5 components, or were often more used in game development or apps with their own UI design. PhoneGap was made open-source in 2011 and rebranded Cordova, and since then several other cross-platform tools have been built on top of it, such as the Ionic framework, released in 2013. Early on, the main contenders were Unity, Adobe AIR and PhoneGap. It’s time to check out the state of play in cross-platform development! Cross-platform app development - a quick catch-upĮver since iPhones and Android phones have been around, there have been tools to facilitate development on both mobile platforms with just one codebase. Having just spent a lot of time converting an iOS app to Android, I can really appreciate the value of a cross-platform tool with a single codebase. I’ve been working in mobile app development since 2010, initially with Adobe AIR and PhoneGap, but for nearly ten years now I have mainly focused on native iOS development - Xcode, Objective-C, Swift and more recently of course SwiftUI. In general, they allow the bike to carry more stuff than with a standard bikepacking setup. They also eliminate the need for a standard seat pack and handlebar roll by offering innovative means of attaching equipment and drybags to the bike. These proprietary aluminum racks provide a very stable platform for strapping all sorts of gear. There’s a lot to talk about with this bike, so let’s start with the 1120’s two most prominent features, the bright orange tangles of metal at its fore and aft. Instead you’ll find an in depth analysis and a couple different perspectives regarding our experiences using it, comparisons, technical details… and, as usual, plenty of photos (don’t miss the new carousel galleries). Ryan took it for a week or so, gave it a few rides and took it on a bikepacking trip to add his perspective. So, I enlisted the help of Ryan Sigsbey, a friend, photographer, bikepacker, and creator of the Trans-WNC. Then I got about a dozen rides in with it and had a bit of a relapse… from which I am still recovering. I’ve had this bike since August, but an injury/surgery/recovery kept me off of it for a couple of months. And this they did with a bang, creating a 29+ rig that is quite a departure from all the rest, even their own Stache.īefore we dig in, let me clarify the nature of this review. It only made sense to add a couple hundred to the naming schema for a big-tired bikepacking rig. Then Trek found success with its more recent gravel and dirt-drop tourer, the Trek 920. First the 520 and 720 touring bikes became classics back in the early 80s. The Wisconsin based titan has a longstanding history of making bikes in the adventure travel and touring category. Hub specs: 148 x 12mm (R) 110x15mm (F)įollowing suit, the 1120 was a natural progression for Trek. There are a few others as well, and probably more to come. It was only a matter of time before others created variations on the theme: The Chumba Ursa 29+, the Carver Gnarvester, Salsa’s Deadwood and Woodsmoke, the Bombtrack Beyond ADV, and the Why Wayward. It all started with the Krampus in 2012, and then came the Surly ECR, which was sort of the first big-tired purpose built bikepacking bike. Bear in mind, big wagon wheels aren’t for everyone, and there are plenty of 27.5+ bikepacking rigs too, but it’s no surprise that this legacy continues to thrive… for plenty of reasons we’ve already covered within this site. With multiple companies creating bikepacking-specific bikes around the 29+ platform, it’s as if bikepacking has an official tire size. With additional photos and insight by Ryan Sigsbey |
