I tried everything, taking the maker apart, defrosting, unplugging and replugging the fridge, ensuring water supply was not blocked, messed around with the sensor bar, etc. Got a side by side fridge that makes craft ice that stopped making craft ice suddenly after about a year. I know this is an old post BUT wanted to throw this out there for any inquiring minds and hopefully a free resolution: All I can be certain about is that whatever replacement you have installed will fail again in under a year. There could also few some other electronic component (a thermostat?) that is malfunctioning after a certain amount of time. I don't know if those are sensors (which tell the ice maker when the balls have finished freezing) or heaters that are designed to help eject the frozen ice balls from the molds. I found wires that are threaded underneath the silicone molds (top and bottom). Water continues to be dosed in and freezes over everything, which eventually seizes the motors and mechanisms. Clearly, at some point the ice maker stops dispensing the frozen ice balls. I disassembled the last (broken) assembly that came out of mine and could not determine what the issue was. I asked for images or clarification from that poster but never received an answer. He claimed that a build up of minerals from hard water stops the mechanism from pivoting the frozen balls out of the molds. I recently saw a post here on Reddit from another owner who said that he figured out what the issue was. And the horrid overall experience with this appliance, and with the poor quality of LG support, has led me to swear off buying another LG appliance in the future. It's a pity too as this was one of the key features that motivated me to buy the LG fridge. They seem well aware that this part keeps failing but have made no effort to correct it. As of the last time I spoke with LG (so-called) customer support about this - in November 2021 - LG has no change or update to this part. Took ten minutes and most of that time was just clearing the freezer of food. Just one modular, click in electrical connection and two screws. But most recently I just bought the part myself and installed it. The first time for me it was replaced under warranty. They all seem to last around 6-9 months or so before they fail. I have an LG fridge (with craft ice maker) purchased in September 2019. Yes, there are LOTS of people online who have posted about troubles with the craft ice makers. I will update again if/when there is any new information or updates! I contacted LG and they said that the warranty is only for 1 year, despite what someone claiming to be a 3rd party customer service rep said in the comments regarding them extending the warranty since they are having ongoing issues with craft ice. I was hoping that maybe they had made adjustments and new units would be more robust, but apparently not. Any help appreciated!ĮDIT#1: I had the ice maker replaced in May, which my credit card warranty paid for, but now it is doing the exact same thing. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have an extended warranty through my credit card but wanted to be able to talk with the repair folks prior so I don’t pay for a house call for them just to tell me it needs to be replaced and to schedule another appointment. I haven’t read of any fix, in fact it hard to find any info about it, besides replacing the craft ice unit. ![]() But, if no one is home it will just close back up thinking they did and attempt to fill the mold with water and spill into the tray, which essentially ruins all the ice that was made previously. I think it’s the ice getting stuck to something, maybe the silicone mold? If I hear it, I can run over there and help push it open so the balls, ahem, drop. The mechanism will attempt to turn and release the balls but something gets stuck and it clicks really loudly. Our over one year old LG refrigerator (read as out of warranty) is having trouble producing craft ice. But he said the VA has prioritized reproductive care for all veterans and continues to "strongly advocate for expanded access to assisted reproductive therapies, including in vitro fertilization." VA Press Secretary Terrence Hayes said the department could not comment on ongoing litigation. The DoD declined to comment on the litigation. ![]() The DoD and VA's discriminatory policy violates a section of the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, she said. When pressed on the Department of Veterans Affairs providing health care for service-connected illnesses or injuries, Quinter said the service-connected requirement of the fertility policies is "above and beyond what is normally required for VHA benefits." The lawsuits seek to represent single veterans, those in unmarried partnerships, LGBTQ+ veterans, and any veteran who suffers from infertility or otherwise cannot prove that their infertility is service-connected. Jessica Quinter, a recent graduate of Yale Law School who is involved with its Reproductive Rights and Justice Project, noted that the civilian insurance program's benefits will soon outstrip those offered by the VA and Tricare. They also will begin covering drugs used for up to three cycles of IVF per year but stop short of covering the procedure. The benefit would not be available to former troops, career retirees or those medically retired from service or their families under Tricare, and it would not cover in vitro fertilization. The Senate's version of the fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act includes provisions that would add services such as fertility testing and intrauterine insemination, or IUI, for service members and Tricare beneficiaries. The VA had requested legislation in its fiscal 2024 budget to expand its coverage of advanced fertility treatments, including IVF and adoption services, to include those who are single in a same-sex relationship or need a donated embryo, egg or sperm. Those whose infertility resulted from a service-related injury or illness also can access IVF, but that benefit is restricted to married couples able to provide their own eggs and sperm. And under DoD rules, the use of donor eggs or sperm is prohibited - an exclusion that restricts same-sex couples, even those who are legally married and who have a service-connected fertility condition, from using the benefit.Īt the VA, veterans have access to fertility testing, medication, artificial insemination, cryopreservation of gametes, counseling and more. And they can use Tricare, the military's civilian health benefits program, for limited services such as diagnoses of conditions that cause infertility and correction of medical issues that may be the source. Other married troops can go to one of seven military treatment facilities that offer IVF, artificial insemination and other fertility services to receive services at cost. The DoD covers fertility counseling, in vitro fertilization and other assisted reproductive technologies for married service members whose infertility is tied to a military injury or related illness. |
